UL Alarm Certificate Service

Only UL Listed alarm service companies can provide UL Alarm Certificate Service to their customers. An alarm certificate is a declaration of compliance. It states that an installed alarm system has been serviced and tested to perform to UL standards and applicable installation codes. It also provides local regulatory authorities with a quick snapshot of important information, including:

  • Service center coverage
  • Date of issue and expiration
  • Extent of protection
  • The method of signal transmission
  • The name and address of the property coverage
  • The alarm service company

In short, the UL Alarm Certificate documents that the alarm system you have will give you the protection and service you purchased.

On-site audits

Under the UL Alarm Certificate service, an alarm system is subject to random, on-site audits conducted by a representative from your alarm service company and a UL alarm auditor, who will examine the installation, design and operability of the system.

In addition, the UL auditor will review records of service, maintenance and periodic tests and, in the case of central station systems, the processing of signals and the performance of response forces. Should the audit find any discrepancies between your system and your UL Alarm Certificate, your alarm service company is responsible for correcting them.

UL is the only company to offer alarm system certification and on-site checks of alarm service companies that comply with either American National Standards Institute (ANSI) approved standards or the National Fire Alarm Code.

With UL Alarm Certificate Service, you gain:

  • Confidence that your system complies with nationally published standards
  • Visual confirmation of your system's inspection record
  • Peace of mind that your system will perform as it should to protect your premises and valued company personnel
  • Greater confidence that your alarm company will promptly respond to requests for service
  • Potential reductions in insurance premiums (depending on your insurance company)
  • Reduced risk of false alarms
  • Listing of your business in the UL Certificate Verification Service (ULCVS), a secure, online database. Access to this information is limited to regulatory authorities and insurance companies for verification of your certificated system

UL Alarm Certificate Service is available for a modest annual fee from your alarm service company.
